Gainesville is served by the Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) that typically has connections through Atlanta and Charlotte, NC. Airlines that fly into Gainesville include American Eagle, Delta, United and USAirways.
For those attendees who may prefer a direct flight, or don’t mind a bit of a drive, Gainesville is approximately a 90 minute drive from both Jacksonville (JAX) and Orlando International (MCO) airports.
If you would like to have a rental car during your stay, we have secured special Journalism Interactive discounts with our preferred partner AVIS. Those discounts, using AWD D016331, are good for rental cars at Gainesville (GNV), Orlando (MCO) or Jacksonville (JAX) airports. You may book your car online or via phone 800-331-1600.
We have arranged for blocks of rooms at special J/i rates at two hotels.
Hampton Inn & Suites
The Hampton Inn and Suites downtown is one block from the Hippodrome Theatre (main location of the conference) and some of the sessions will be held in the hotel. Rate is $119/night.
A block of rooms have been reserved for February 7, 2013 – February 10, 2013. The special room rate will be available until 11:59pm of January 14, or until the group of rooms is sold out, whichever comes first.
The Homewood Suites is located near I-75, and approximately 15 minutes away from downtown. J/i will offer shuttle service between this location and the conference locales. Rate is $119/night.

There are myriad other lodging options in Gainesville, few within easy walking distance of downtown. J/i recommends the Sweetwater Branch Inn, the Laurel Oak Inn and the Magnolia Plantation Bed and Breakfast Inn as smaller B&Bs near walking distance and the Hilton Garden Inn is adjacent to the Homewood Suites (and the shuttle).
For those who may want alternate locations in town, the Hilton University Conference Center is on the far side of campus, and will require a rental car. The Holiday Inn is 13 blocks away from downtown.
