Vivian Schiller to Deliver Keynote
The Media Executive Focuses on the Intersection of Journalism and Technology
The former head of news for Twitter, Vivian Schiller, will deliver the keynote address at the 4th annual Journalism Interactive conference this April in Columbia, Missouri.
The Missouri School of Journalism and the Reynolds Journalism Institute will host the conference on journalism education and digital media April 24-25, 2015. Other Journalism Interactive consortium partners are the University of Florida and the University of Maryland. Schiller’s address, “Beyond the Buzzwords: What It Means to Be a News Organization in the Digital Age,” will focus on the impact of emerging technologies on both the practice of journalism and the business viability of news media companies.
Schiller has more than 25 years of experience in journalism, most recently as global chair of news at Twitter. In this role, Schiller led the company’s strategy for news and partnership with journalism organizations and the news publishing ecosystem.
Prior to joining Twitter, Schiller served as senior vice president and chief digital officer for NBC News where she had strategic and operational oversight of the networks’ presence on the Web, mobile, devices and social media.
Schiller has served in many leadership roles including president and CEO of NPR, senior vice president and general manager of both NYTimes.com and the Discovery Times Channel.
Earlier in her career, Schiller was the head of CNN Productions, where she led CNN’s long-form programming efforts. Documentaries and series produced under her auspices earned multiple honors, including three Peabody Awards, four Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Awards and dozens of Emmys.
As part of the Journalism Interactive conference, Schiller will kick off two days of inspiration, innovation and training for journalism educators and students.
